From Episode 107 – The Cocktail Party – The Classic Sidecar
The classic sidecar in film history… When Patrick Dennis crashes into his Auntie Mame’s room at noon with his newly completed model airplane, the timing is inappropriate, to say the least. Mame’s hung over from their nightly cocktail parties and tell’s Patrick so. “Your Auntie Mame’s hung.” She recovers from the rude awakening quickly however, and after encouraging Patrick in his aviation pursuits sends him off to Nora to get her breakfast – black coffee and a sidecar. What makes this drink appropriate is its use of Grand Gala (orange liqueur) and an orange twist.
Julie Ryner, owner and mixologist of the beguiling Flatiron Lounge visited the show to make us a classic side car.
- Hennessey Cognac
- Grand Gala orange liqueur
- Lemon juice
- Granulated sugar
- An orange twist
Shake together with ice 2 oz of the Hennessey, 1 oz of the Grand Gala and a dash of lemon juice. Strain into a sugar rimmed cocktail glass and squeeze, then drop in an orange twist.
Julie also made a gin drink for gin haters on the show. Find the recipe here.
